This class is designed to help your dog prepare for the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen test. In this course, we'll practice each of the ten items on the test. These include polite greetings, calmly accepting petting and handling from a stranger, basics like sit, down, stay, and recall, and more advanced behaviors like heel and remaining calm while a guardian moves out of sight.

If you're interested in training your dog for any kind of therapy or service work, preparing for the Canine Good Citizen test is a great way to evaluate whether they're a likely candidate, and earning the CGC certification is an exciting first step toward that goal. Even if you have no intention of training your dog for any kind of work, this class will help you practice and develop important life skills and advance your training. Some housing associations only allow dogs with a CGC certification, so if you think your dog is capable of passing the test, it's a helpful thing to have.

All dogs who register for this course must be friendly to other dogs and people. If your dog is selectively reactive on leash or shy when strangers handle them, we're happy to set up a private, in-home session to work on any fear-related issues and evaluate whether this class would be a good fit.

Prerequisites: knowledge of Sit, Stay, Down, loose-leash walking, and recall.

The course is six sessions at $450 for the full course 

Once you've completed the course, you'll have the opportunity to take the test with a Canine Good Citizen evaluator, for an additional fee.
